Happy Purim!
Join us for Purim at Chabad Lubavitch of Idaho
Thursday night, February 25 - Friday, February 26, 2021
Rabbi's Message

Purim marks one year since we last held a major in-person event at the Chabad Jewish Center.

This year, we will be doing things differently. Some services will be held indoors and some outdoors. All services and events will be held with social distancing and masks will be required.

Purim at Chabad Lubavitch of Idaho is a really happy and festive time where we celebrate the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia.

To the best of our ability, we will celebrate in a safe and festive fashion.

On Purim you should hear the Megillah, Eat a festive meal, Give charity to the needy and Give food gifts to friends.

You can find more information about the holiday below.

May we soon be able to celebrate in an even greater fashion!

Wishing you a happy Purim!

Rabbi Mendel Lifshitz

Food Gifts to Friends

On Purim we emphasize the importance of Jewish unity and friendship by sending gifts of food to friends.

On Purim day, February 26, send a gift of at least two kinds of ready-to-eat foods (e.g., pastry, fruit, beverage) to at least one friend. Men should send to men, and women to women. It is preferable that the gifts be delivered via a third party. Children, in addition to sending their own gifts of food to their friends, make enthusiastic messengers.

Giving to the Needy
One of Purim’s primary themes is Jewish unity. Haman tried to kill us all, we were all in danger together, so we celebrate together too. Hence, on Purim day we place special emphasis on caring for the less fortunate.

Give money or food to at least two needy people during the daylight hours of Purim, February 26. In case you can’t find any needy people, we will  be collecting money online for this purpose. At the minimum, place two coins in a charity box earmarked for the poor.

[On Purim, we give a donation to whoever asks; we don’t verify his or her bank balance first.]

As with the other mitzvahs of Purim, even small children should fulfill this mitzvah.
