Mishloach Manot Exchange

Gifts of Food - A PURIM MITZVAH

  • On Purim, it is a mitzvah to share gifts of food with each other.

We emphasize the importance of friendship and community by sending gifts of food to friends. This is called Mishloach Manot. This year, due to the pandemic (when it is difficult to participate in the Purim Feast together), the importance of this mitzvah is even greater.

    Here's how it's done:

On Purim day, February 26, send a package containing at least two different kosher and ready-to-eat food items and/or beverages (e.g., pastry, fruit, beverage) to at least one Jewish acquaintance during the daylight hours of Purim. Customarily, men send to men, and women to women.

It is preferable that the gifts be delivered via a third party. Children, in addition to sending their own gifts of food to their friends, make enthusiastic messengers.

This year Chabad Lubavitch of Idaho will be delivering Mishloach Manot throughout the community.

Here's how you can participate and fulfill this mitzvah while you are at it.

    You can (either or both):

Give Mishloach Manot to another person (randomly selected by Chabad) by donating. Chabad will deliver for you on the day of Purim. You will also receive Mishloach Manot delivered to you on the day of Purim.

Volunteer to deliver Mishloach Manot on the day of Purim.
