Sometimes we can see our destination. In fact, it’s easily within reach.
But, there are roadblocks. The roadblocks are sometimes external. At other times they come from within.
Adversaries, curveballs and all types of unforeseen circumstances get in the way of our goals.
My own procrastination, self-imposed challenges and hurdles, addictions and distractions all block me from achieving the goals in a timely fashion. Even when I otherwise am on target to reach my objective.
How can we overcome these hurdles?
It’s easy to simply wish them away. But, oftentimes, they are very real. Whether or not they are of my own making, they throw me off track and I am unable to simply imagine them out of existence.

In this week’s parsha Naso, we learn of G-d’s command to the Kohanim (priests) to bless the Jewish people.
What effect does their blessings have? Also, doesn’t Hashem already decide on Rosh Hashanah what blessings we will receive for the coming year?

Blessings are like goals. My goals might be within reach, but can be delayed or missed entirely due to roadblocks. Similarly, G-d’s blessings are ‘en-route’ to me. In fact, they have already been dispatched at Rosh Hashanah.
However, in order for them to reach their destination, two things must occur. Firstly, I must deserve that they descend from heaven to earth. That’s why we pray every day, and not only on Rosh Hashanah. My allotment is available, designated as such on the Jewish New Year. But, every day, I need to tap into that virtual bank account and make a withdrawal. Daily prayer accomplishes this.
But, that’s sometimes not enough.
Often, even after I’ve made the effort to pray and access my heavenly bounty, there are still roadblocks. These roadblocks can’t cancel my withdrawal. But, they can delay it.
The Kohanim, by virtue of their blessings, can accelerate the transmission of Divine bounty. Through their blessings, the roadblocks are eliminated and we are granted our blessings swiftly.
Next time you see a Kohen, give thanks for clearing the way.
